We’re Building Earth’s Most Customer-Centric Compan--oh look! bad press!
"Lost in a lot of the hullabaloo is the disability angle and the fact that feminist and female sexuality books were also deranked. This was intentional. I would go so far as to say it was mistaken and probably a committee decision of surpassing corporate blindness, but do not insult my intelligence and tell me it was a “glitch”. I wouldn’t be surprised if it ended up being a hit job by a hate group, as tehdely theorizes–but still, Amazon has not become a huge company by taking weirdo fundies seriously, even weirdo fundies with agendas."

tehdely's theory reminded me of something kirbyfest told me once, about how some fundie groups have a very clear plan on how to take over local moderate churches. This sounds like more of the same--they have really mastered the art of exploiting the system at a low level. Not saying this theory is correct, but it certainly is plausible.

My experience of Amazon's rec systems is that until this started, it was purely based on sales. I'd noticed their recs had been a little bland in the last couple months, but assumed it was because my recent purchases have been folklore and children's books. Apparently not.

I bought rather a few lesbian fiction books there recently and my recs mysteriously were, indeed, all gheydom-free. Which I didn't even think about until you pointed it out. *waves hello to new friends Powell's, Better World Books, HMV and Lala*

Going back and looking for things to tag, they still have a record of my purchases of doubleplusgay manga, the book on Takarazuka, the UberXena, and queer/feminist/naughty cult studs. So it's not like they have no basis for recommending new titles.

But one random guy on the Internet said it was an outside troll attack, so you know it must be true.

Because it's totally do-able.

He said and stuff, so anyone who says it wasn't is just part of a "lynch mob."

Yeah, I got the "Thanks for contacting us. We recently discovered a glitch in our systems and it's being fixed." response, too.

FAIL, Amazon, shame and fail.

I haven't had any sort of reply at all.

I just cancelled several hundred dollars in pre-orders, and told them why. Maybe they'll hear that. :)

In this world, money speaks with a thunderous voice. Perhaps they will.
