what did we learn on Amazon today?
Anyone who uses the phrase, "Now, I'm no Holmes purist" in a review of anything Sherlock Holmes is about to completely lose their shit over some perceived crime against Conan Doyle, Holmes, the readers, or humanity committed by the work reviewed.

I'm still surprised that of all things, it's giving Sherlock a vag that ruins the character forever.

I'm certain some fans would argue in total seriousness that his dick contains all the deductive-reasoning cells.

I'm no dick purist, but...

That comment just ruined Holmes FOREVER.

EVERYTHING ruins Holmes forever. Parody and humor ruin Holmes forever. The gay ruins Holmes forever. Making Holmes a villain ruins him forever. The only thing that apparently doesn't ruin Holmes forever is unbearably shitty writing.

You'd think he'd be harder to ruin.

Life gets so much easier when you realize the version you personally don't care for doesn't actually go back and undo your personal favorite interpretation the One And Only True Way To Do It.

I'm no Holmes purist, but I'd say some of these people are deeply offended that material in question isn't their personal vision of Holmes. To which I say, pfffft.

Every time someone loses their minds over some perceived ruination of their beloved Holmesian characters, I go put in Without A Clue and watch Michael Caine play Sherlock as a stumbling, alcoholic buffoon while Ben Kingsley's Watson calls him every name in the book. And then I am soothed.

I love that movie.

Also love "They Might Be Giants". George C. Scott as a man deluded that he is Sherlock Holmes and Joanne Woodward as his psychiatrist who just happens to be Dr. Watson. It's a charmer.

UNRELATED COMMENT!

I was going through my file cabinet and totally came across the storyboard for a guest strip I was going to pitch to you ages ago for that kid superhero comic thingie you had back in the day.

The end.

There was a web comic I used to read ages ago that had Spiderman and other Marvel characters as preschoolers. For some reason I thought you were the illustrator. Maybe we were both drunk.
